Frequently Asked Questions

What is Creative Boom?

Creative Boom - www.creativeboom.co.uk - is a blog dedicated to supporting other creatives - run by me, Katy Cowan, a creative living in Manchester, UK. It's also a blog where I love to share my own creative adventures, inspirations and thoughts on the creative industries as well as championing art, design and creativity across the globe. Today, my blog reaches over two million people every month, is part of The Guardian Culture Professionals Network and has been recognised and supported by Adobe, Vimeo, Creative England, Arts Council, Computer Arts and the BBC.

What is your own background?

I'm a journalism graduate who started out as a broadcast journalist for some regional and national radio stations back in 2000 (seems like such a long time ago). After running around with a microphone for five years and reading the news across the airwaves, I jumped over into PR and worked for a national agency for a while before starting my own business. That was six years ago, and today - I split my time between Boomerang and my much-loved blog, Creative Boom.

How do I get listed in your Directory?

If you sign up and become a member, you can create your own listing in my free Directory. You're welcome to choose one creative category and one region per listing. Please note, you can only display one image per listing as well. One tip - use an image to show off your work rather than a logo, it'll draw people to your listing! Please note, not everyone makes it into my Directory... If I don't think you're suitable, I won't add you.

What about the Jobs Board?

Creative Boom has its own niche Jobs Board for the creative industries which reaches over a million people each and every month. Each jobs post costs a reasonable £50 for a 30 day listing. What's more, every job gets tweeted to my 46,000+ Twitter followers. To add your own, sign up and become a member and you can start listing your jobs opportunities today. Please note, Creative Boom loves to support charities and non-profits by offering jobs posts for free. Simply email **advertising@creativeboom.co.uk and I'll sort the rest! And if you're a recruitment firm, please contact me on the same email address to enquire about special discounted rates.

How do I get featured on Creative Boom?

First of all, read my How to get featured on Creative Boom article. This will explain that I have two main sections where you could get featured. One is the Inspiration section - where I showcase people's work in the fields of art, design, illustration and photography. The other is a range of regular Features, as detailed below.

What is Favourite Things?

Favourite Things is a regular exploration of creative people's top five favourite things. It could be a book, a piece of artwork, a much-loved city, an ornament or a favourite hobby. If you'd like to share your Favourite Things, email things@creativeboom.co.uk.

What is Readers' Studios?

Readers' Studios is a regular peek into other people's workspaces and studios. From inspiring garden sheds and cosy home offices to stunning warehouses and converted chapels. Got a studio you'd love to share with me? Email four or five Jpegs of your space to studios@creativeboom.co.uk.

What is Workabout?

Workabout is a regular review of cafes, restaurants, coffee shops and co-working spaces where freelancers and creatives can enjoy a change of scenery or meet clients.. Got a great co-working space, coffee shop or restaurant that's a good place to remotely work from? Email workabout@creativeboom.co.uk and tell me why I should review your place.

What is Creative Cities?

Creative Cities is a regular feature, focusing on local creative scenes across the UK, giving an overview of what's happening in each city and an insight into their creative industries. If you're a freelancer, agency, artist or startup and you live in a city that you feel deserves a mention on Creative Boom - or you're a venue that you think deserves credit - email cities@creativeboom.co.uk.

I've emailed you but heard nothing back... What's going on?

I get hundreds of emails every day and I simply can't respond personally to them all. I'm flattered to get lots of requests for help and invites to go for coffee - and whilst I'd love to extend my support to fellow creatives beyond my blog, I simply don't have time to do everything. I run my own business called Boomerang during office hours. That's what pays my bills. Creative Boom is simply a beloved hobby that I manage in my spare time. I hope you will respect that I'm only human and not Wonder Woman (although I wish I was, her outfit rocks)!? There's only so much I can do. If you read these FAQs thoroughly, and you send me exactly what I need for each section of my blog, then you'll definitely be considered. Generic emails that have no focus tend to be deleted. So read these FAQs again and send me what I need first time to make my life easier and to have a better chance of being featured.

I'd like to advertise on Creative Boom, how do I do this?

I have lots of advertising opportunities available across my blog along with a niche audience of creative talent. If you'd like to advertise, read my Advertising page. You may also email advertising@creativeboom.co.uk.
