Since I started Creative Boom back in July 2009, I've been writing tips articles, sharing my own pieces of advice to help freelancers and small businesses whenever I can. Everything from getting started and setting things up, to smooth running and dealing with any issues that might arise.

I thought it might be helpful to bring the majority of them together in this 'Ultimate Collection of Tips for Creative Freelancers'. Something you can easily refer back to when you need a good reading list. Not all of my tips are included here, but the ones I have listed are helpfully categorised under different headings. Enjoy!

Getting Started

“Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice; and most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”
Steve Jobs

Smooth Running

“When you waste a moment, you have killed it in a sense, squandering an irreplaceable opportunity. But when you use the moment properly, filling it with purpose and productivity, it lives on forever.”
Menachem Mendel Schneerson

Keeping Healthy and Happy

“It takes a strong fish to swim against the current. Even a dead one can float with it.”
John Crowe

 Dealing with Issues

“Keep away from small people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you too can become great.”
Mark Twain

 Marketing

“There are no magic wands, no hidden tricks, and no secret handshakes that can bring you immediate success, but with time, energy, and determination you can get there.”
Darren Rowse, Founder of ProBlogger

 Public Relations

“It takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it. If you think about that, you’ll do things differently.”
Warren Buffett

 Getting Online

“In today’s information age of Marketing and Web 2.0, a company’s website is the key to their entire business.”
Marcus Sheridan, Author of The Sales Lion

 Blogging

“By publishing content that shows buyers you understand their problems and can show them how to solve them, you build credibility.”
Ardath Albee, Author of E-Marketing Strategies For The Complex Sale

 Getting Social

“We have technology, finally, that for the first time in human history allows people to really maintain rich connections with much larger numbers of people.”
Pierre Omidyar, founder of Ebay

 Dealing with Clients

“For me it’s always about first impressions. I trust my instincts.”
Billy Zane

 Secrets to Long Term Success

“I never thought I'd be successful. It seems in my own mind that in everything I've undertaken I've never quite made the mark. But I've always been able to put disappointments aside. Success isn't about the end result; it's about what you learn along the way.”
Vera Wang
