Ghostly paintings of beautiful women lost in the woods

Los Angeles-based artist Joanne Nam continues to delight with her beautiful 'oil on wood' paintings of mystical female characters in stark, imagined worlds. These ghostly, dark offerings delve into Nam's childhood in the forests of Korea, which has clearly left an impression on her and inspired most of her work.

"I am not going to paint an old man dragging a dead dog," she says – a recurring memory of hers – "However, I would definitely paint a girl feeling the strangely beautiful disturbance." More can be discovered on her portfolio.

LA's Thinkspace Gallery will be invading San Francisco this Friday 31 October for a group show entitled 'LAX / SFO' at Hashimoto Contemporary. Featuring brand new works by over 60 international artists, Joanne will be one of those exhibiting.
